It took a few days and many tries to realize that the black top has to be pried open.
The container holds a surprisingly large amount of fresh herbs. I stuffed fresh rosemary, oregano,a bay leaf and parsley stalks into it, repositioned the cover and hung it on the side of a large soup pot.
I was surprised to find only the stems and bay leaf remaining in the container when the soup was finished. the remains were easy to remove.
I liked it enough to purchase three more as gifts.
