Between 1964 and 1966, Andy Warhol produced an extensive series of nearly 500 portraits on film—the Screen Tests—of acquaintances, friends, and celebrities, including many of the artists, musicians, poets, actors, models, playwrights, curators, collectors, critics, and gallerists who composed New York City’s avant-garde scene. Produced in conjunction with the exhibition Andy Warhol: Motion Pictures, Screen Test: Susan Sontag makes one of these films available for personal observation. The DVD is accompanied by a booklet containing an essay by Klaus Biesenbach, MoMA’s Chief Curator at Large and Director of MoMA PS1.
