I would say the soap dispenser is aesthetically pleasing. In fact it is a glorious piece of elegant design. That's why I kept it...not because it is terribly functional. First off, be careful when opening it to fill the first time. The top GENTLY pulls off and the inner pump part unscrews. Do not pull out the inner part! I actually had to write MOMA to find out how this thing came apart. (They gave me the wrong info, but I figured it out on my own.) When it's all back together after putting soap in, the top will be loose and floppy. Press down on it (yes, lots of soap comes out!) and turn it clockwise. The top still is a little loose but no t terribly. Instructions are desperately needed for this item. Or maybe it's just me....
