Product Description

Akari Paper Lantern Table Lamp

Lamps from the Akari "light" series have been represented in the Museum's design collection since the 1950s. This iconic Akari Paper Lantern Table Lamp blends traditional Japanese handicraft with modernist style. A multifaceted artist and designer, Isamu Noguchi was first inspired to create his Akari lamp series after a trip to Gifu, Japan, during which he noticed lanterns illuminating night fishing along the Nagara River. This lamp with a tripod base is handmade of washi paper and bamboo ribbing that is supported by a metal frame. This genuine Akari lamp features a stamped symbol and the designer's signature. Requires one 40-watt bulb (not included). Simple assembly required.
